天才歌手史蒂夫·汪达（Stevie Wonder）原名Steveland Judkins，1950年5月13日出生于美国密歇根州（Michigan）萨基脑（Sag-inaw）的一个黑人家庭。早产的Stevie刚出生就被送进婴儿暖箱，却因为暖箱供氧过量而永远告别了光明。Stevie Wonder可算是位“天才歌手”，他4岁学会吹口琴，5岁开始学钢琴，11岁就会演奏10多种乐器，他还生就一副好嗓子。1963年，他以一曲“Fingertips” 夺取单曲排行冠军3周，震动了整个乐坛。
当Stevie Wonder1962年开始录制唱片时，他才只有11岁。尽管在那时，没有迹象能表明他的才能有多深，但他的才能已经是很明显的了。毕竟，音乐是这个令人吃惊的天才儿童的工作。不久，Stevie Wonder就因Fingertips而扬名于外。两年后，他成为Motown的最好的艺术家之一，录制了一系列极有才气的单曲。在这段时间内，他的专辑就像Motown别的专辑一样，是一首最佳单曲和一些令人愉快的歌的组合。也只有Wonder被允许去偶然的录制一些反映他自己成长的社会意识的歌。例如他在Bob Dylan中的热门的"Blowin' in the Wind."。直到60年代末，不但他自己的唱片在热门榜上有名，他还为别的许多Motown的艺术家提供了好多歌和资料。包括the Spinners' "It's a Shame"还有和Smokey Robinson.合写的"The Tears of a Clown"。

1973年的交通事故后，以此为契机，开始投身于慈善与和平事业。曾演唱歌曲反对南非种族隔离制度，另有歌曲赞颂黑人运动领袖马丁·路德·金。
